Kermis is een bonte verzameling van attracties. Eetkramen, spelvermaak, spiegelpaleizen, funhouses, sensatietuigen en draaimolens. Véél draaimolens. Die maken vaak het verschil. In pretparken zie je ze nog amper, maar op het stadsplein zijn ze een waardemeter voor een ‘goed draaiende’ kermis. Onvoorstelbaar hoeveel waanzinnige draaimolens passagiers lieten zwieren en zwaaien tegen meer dan vijftig kilometer per uur binnen de bebouwde kom. Vaak met geweldige namen, prachtige decors en unieke draaiprincipes. Sommige molens zijn ondertussen tot schroot herleid, werden verkast naar Dubai of liggen opgeplooid ergens in een hangar. Vele molens behoren ondanks hun respectabele leeftijd nog altijd tot de beste van de klas en zullen zelfs de huidige generatie draaiprincipes overleven.
